Anyway I have seen gameplay of black mesa and it is nice and might aswell be half life with modern graphics. ![]() ![]() But I have been buying them back on steam for example SS2. I havent given black mesa a shot yet as it is a mod and I have unfortanitley lost alot of games I use to own on steam. Not to say I am allergic to the vanilla graphics I could switch back and not care at all.Īnyway going back to what I said there ALOT of mods dedicated to making the game look better. Even still I have installed a graphical mod pack for SS2 which adds a nice modern coat of paint to the game. I dont care for graphical fidelity I just want a good game. But I dont see much of the point of a HD remake. Thats pretty much how much I love this game like half life and other games. I have beat the game multipile times as all 3 classes on impossible and I know the game by heart. I have put 40 hours into my steam version of SS2. ![]() I might have played the game for over hundred sixtyish hours. Hmm well before I owned SS2 on steam I was a kid and I played SS2 more hours than considerd healthly. But since EA can be a**holes then you may be right about it. I've searched it, it seems that dark mod is actually id tech 4 (unless im looking at something else)Ībout the copyright and amount of free work, well, i don't know how black mesa was developed (sorry for all the half life refrences) but it seems that valve didn't make any problems with it. In case of SS2, I can imagine a total conversion of the Dark Mod would work nicely - the engine is open source, and the basic functionality to recreate all the SS2 stuff should already be there.Ĭonclusion: not impossible, but, considering the tremendous amount of free work involved, very unlikely. but do note that this is still gray zone stuff, and they would be able to take you down, should they decide to do so. there are quite a few remakes that are doing this (using their own engine and some assets, but still requiring the original resources to run), and the content owners generally let them be. Ps47.3dfx původně napsal:the only way this could MAYBE, and I repeat, MAYBE work is making the remake require original game assets (and therefore, a copy of the original game), and, of course, making it completely free. (Plus, what game engine would you use? first i thought that the dead space engine would be great but i don't think EA is licensing it, and now im thinking on Cry Engine 3, or any future cry engine versions) (though im not a programmer, and the only way i can contribute to such a project is with sound editing/soundtrack, and i definitely won't have time to learn how to program for the next 3 years, and barely have time for sound things, sorry guys)Īnyway, in case something like that will happen, (whether i will be involved in such project or not) - do you think that shodan needs a new voice actress? or maybe the dev team behind it should contact terri to see if she agrees to record shodan's famous lines? or just try to "remaster" the original recordings? New models, textures, sequences, soundtrack, and voice overs as well. You know, like Black Mesa was a remake of the first half life.
